Scoreboards are crucial for keeping an official tally of the points garnered by opposing teams. They need to be big enough for everyone to see for the sake of transparency. The scores serve as a constant reminder for everyone to protect the lead or catch up, depending on where they fall.

In street level competitions, football scoreboards are nothing more than blackboards that you can write on with chalk. There’s a slot for the home team and the visitors. Designated officials manually update the number of goals made by each team until the end of the match.

In higher level competitors, the scoreboard features LED lighting and electronic circuits. It is connected to a computer which accepts the official’s input. It may even include the game clock so that everyone is aware of how much time is remaining for the match.
