A rapid test kit (sometimes also called a ‘rapid diagnostic test’) is a medical test for preliminary or emergency medical screening for specific conditions of diseases. During the global pandemic, these kits have been developed for testing outside the laboratory and the point where care is delivered to the patient. It is used to detect for the presence of the presence of antigens to the Sars-CoV-2 virus that causes Covid-19.

These tests are highly useful in fighting the pandemic because they can be implemented quickly without the need for any specialized training. They are also relatively inexpensive and can produce a result within 10 to 30 minutes. They are used as a mass-population testing technique that shows how the virus is spreading through a community to provide data for decisions that need to be made about isolation efforts to halt its spread.
