Sustainable living refers to a way of living that seeks to reduce or maintain an individual’s consumption of natural resources and personal resources so that they can be replenished over time. Adherents attempt to reduce the amount of carbon that they use by seeking to limit their energy consumption as much as possible since carbon is a major element of fossil fuels that are used to provide energy.

Living sustainably means that an individual seeks to live in ways that are balanced with the cycles of nature and that respect the symbiotic nature of human’s relationship with the earth. Achieving this can mean following the practices of ecological living which seeks to follow the principles of sustainability by returning to the earth as much as is taken from it, thereby sustaining the earth’s resources indefinitely instead of consuming them until human life becomes impossible.
